Amazon Releases Statement On Kindle

So Amazon Kindle is now available for all to buy and you can get it in 1 or 2 days depending on your shipping method. This is great news for those who have waited long for Kindle to become available by Amazon.

Can it Be? Amazon Kindle In Stock!

Finally, after months of waiting Amazon Kindle is in stock and eligible for one-day shipping. No queue, no waiting time whatsoever. It’s almost like a dream as we used to wait days and weeks to get a message from Amazon about the availability of this awesome product. Well, Kindle away folks before all these are gone. While I anticipate Amazon to have some available in stock, you don’t want to wait for Kindle to go out of stock again.

Amazon Kindle Dilemma: To Sleep Or Not To Sleep

So should you turn your Kindle off when you are done reading or will putting to sleep enough? That’s the main question I have heard from a few Kindlers. I think it really depends on what you do with your Kindle. I used to be heavy Kindle user, and usually put my Kindle in sleep mode when I was done reading. Obviously, you want to turn the wireless connection off to enjoy more battery life, but if you use Kindle a lot, I don’t a whole lot of point in turning it off and on all the time.

Now if you only use your Kindle once a day or maybe every other day, then you may want to turn it off. Believe me, some Kindle owners use their Kindles less frequently than others. I used to be a hardcore Kindle user, but a lot of books that I read are not on Kindle yet, and I couldn’t find any PDF versions of them (we are talking about technical computer books here). So for me, it makes sense to turn it off in order to get more battery life for Kindle. (more…)

Kindle’s Wireless Service Crashes Early Friday

If you didn’t notice something wrong with your Kindle on Friday, you may be one of the lucky ones. I personally had major issues with my two Kindles. Both of them heavily crashed once I tried the experimental feature to connect to Wikipedia. Amazon forums also had many people who did not get their daily newspapers and you could tell by the tone that a few people were upset.

Thankfully the network came back on and things are back in order. But I guess you can’t really tell with Kindle. I have heard from a few people that the wireless feature died on them after a few months. So when you can’t connect to Wikipedia, that’s the first thing that you think of.

As more people adopt Kindle, I do expect more crashes like the one that happened on Thursday-Friday to come about. Amazon has created a magnificent product in Kindle, but they have shown they are not good in planning out for their hot product. Amazon is however very good in customer service, so feel free to complain to them if your device is under performing.

So how many of you experienced the big crash on Friday?

Amazon Kindle Delivery Date Update: Shipping in 2 weeks!

Amazon has kept up their end of the bargain by speeding up the shipment process on Amazon Kindles. We recently ordered a Kindle (4/7), and we have received 4/23 as our estimated delivery date. That’s way more than what we had to wait to get our very first Kindle. So it’s definitely a good time to pick up the rate Kindle now.

If you are still waiting to get your Kindle, I have to say that you may have to wait a bit longer. But you can always catchup with the latest Kindle news here:

e-Book Reader startups on the rise?

Amazon’s entrance in the eBook market has opened the eyes of venture capitalists to the potential of the ebook market. According to various sources, VCs are now paying more attention to startups which are trying to come up with ebook reader devices. An example for this is Hearst Interactive. HI is supporting first paper that is coming up with a device that will have Firefox on it. Analysts claim that next generation reader will have bigger screens, but I am not sure how that will affect the overall portability of these devices. But I do expect to see innovative products that offer many more features than our current Kindle. But we probably won’t see any of these in 2008.

Customer Getting Impatient With Kindle

You can’t do anything but feel for some of Amazon Kindle customers. Some have been waiting for close to two months to get their Amazon Kindles, and like many they don’t understand why Amazon is offering a product that is not going to be available for months. The good news is that Amazon Kindle has received a very strong support from avid readers which means we will see a Kindle 2.0. The bad news is that some of Amazon loyal customers are absolutely gutted with the company which means we could see a negative word of mouth marketing going against Amazon unless they start delivering those Kindles. Even Nintendo Wii did not have such long delivery delays.

Why e-book readers don’t stand a chance? Are you kidding me?

Don at CNET was kind enough to post a note about how Kindle and other ebook readers don’t stand a chance. Basically, the claim that the publishing industry will be able to hold off the digital wave is rubbish. Amazon Kindle is an expensive device. For $399, you are paying a lot of money to be able to have the ability to read digital books. But Kindle is more than that. Not only it allows you to read eBooks, it also supports audio. Best of all, it is a “connected” device which I think the major factor that Don is not considering in his assessment of Kindle. You can use the dictionary or just surf Wikipedia for more information at any time, and that is something a paper book can’t do for you.

Amazon Kindle is also easy with our eyes, which makes it a major alternative to a paper book. Besides, you can change the font size and a bunch of other things that make Kindle a good choice for those of us who can’t read the small font used in some of the books in the market today. (more…)
