If you have gotten used to your NY Times or Wall Street Journal on the Amaozn Kindle, you are going to have even more options now that LA Times is launching their own Kindle edition. It’s going for $9.99 on Amazon (per month).
This is very good news for the Kindle platform as Amazon will be needing all the help that it could get to enjoy better adoption rate. Giving people more options is one way to go. Of course, Amazon can always add color and more functionalities to Kindle 2.0 to make it even a better fit for the mobile lifestyle.
Well. What do you know? This is not really a rumor as it’s inevitable at this point. The first price drop was designed to get some boost to Amazon’s sales for Kindle. But as Amazon gets better and more efficient in production, expect the price to drop dramatically. If you are hoping for Kindle to go for $100, you won’t be getting that anytime soon (maybe not in 100 years). But the $299 price drop is next in line for the next major holiday season.
As far as Kindle 2.0, nobody really knows what Amazon is planning so far. Some are talking about color, some insiders are talking about premium wireless subscriptions, but I guess as long as we don’t see the sales numbers for Kindle 1.0, it’s tough to expect Amazon to invest even more in a Kindle 2.0.
So is another $50-$60 price drop going to make you pick up one of these babies?
Amazon Kindle is still dominating the best sellers charts on Amazon. It is especially impressive for the Kindle to top iPods and Macbook airs of this world. Now I am sure Amazon would not manipulate the list to show that Kindle is doing better it’s actually doing. Obviously, it is exciting to see people support the Kindle project by paying up $359 for the device, but with all the exposure that Amazon is giving to Kindle, it should be doing much better (if we see some numbers like total # of items sold that would definitely help). Here is hoping that Amazon doesn’t just end the Kindle project without coming out with a color Kindle first.
Amazon.com finally buckled under the pressure from its customers to drop its price on Amazon Kindle. The device that many of us bought for $399.99 and months of shipping, is now going for $359.99 and free 2-day shipping. Was it worth the wait? I don’t know as I couldn’t wait that long. I bought mine the minute I saw it on Amazon, and I have used mine way more than the $50 could make up for. How about you? If you haven’t bought your Kindle yet, get it or it may go out of stock again! You never know!
So Amazon Kindle is now available for all to buy and you can get it in 1 or 2 days depending on your shipping method. This is great news for those who have waited long for Kindle to become available by Amazon.
Amazon has kept up their end of the bargain by speeding up the shipment process on Amazon Kindles. We recently ordered a Kindle (4/7), and we have received 4/23 as our estimated delivery date. That’s way more than what we had to wait to get our very first Kindle. So it’s definitely a good time to pick up the rate Kindle now.
If you are still waiting to get your Kindle, I have to say that you may have to wait a bit longer. But you can always catchup with the latest Kindle news here:
Amazon’s entrance in the eBook market has opened the eyes of venture capitalists to the potential of the ebook market. According to various sources, VCs are now paying more attention to startups which are trying to come up with ebook reader devices. An example for this is Hearst Interactive. HI is supporting first paper that is coming up with a device that will have Firefox on it. Analysts claim that next generation reader will have bigger screens, but I am not sure how that will affect the overall portability of these devices. But I do expect to see innovative products that offer many more features than our current Kindle. But we probably won’t see any of these in 2008.
If you are an eBook master, count eBay out of the avenues where you can market you eBook. I personally have sold a few eBooks on eBay, but that was a long ago. Now you can’t do that on eBay, but I guess you can always use Amazon to market your eBook for Amazon Kindle.
On an announcement on Amazon.com, Jeff Bezos explained that he hopes that Kindle buyers will be able to get same day shipping in a few weeks. He is also asking people who have waited for up to 6 weeks to stick with Amazon a while longer. I know how frustrating the wait is, but believe me it is worth it. Of course, in a month or two, we will all be getting the Kindle much faster. Check out for the cook Kindle cake. Here is the announcement:
