Kindle eBooks are Not Perfect

After uploading a ton of my ebooks to my Kindle, I decided to buy my 10th Kindle book from Amazon. I had not experienced anything with Kindle eBooks before as they all turned out fine. However, this time around the book turned up rather ugly (bought ultimate guide to search engine marketing). It was certainly readable but all the letters were sort of mixed up. For instance instead of saying “ultimate guide to SEM” the book showed “ultimateguidetoSEM.” Not impossible to read but that’s what you don’t expect to see after paying $10 for the book. Having said that, 1 strike out of 10 tries is still a pretty good deal to me. I saved over $200 on my Kindle books, and that sort of justifies paying $399 for the device.
theyre not perfect by a long shot… ive bought about 15 books so far, and read samples of at least 40, and the defect rate seems to be about 1 in 7. many MANY kindle books suffer from incorrect formatting or terrible fonts (or both)… ive learned at this point to ALWAYS get the sample before purchase. if the book isnt using the standard kindle fonts, and correctly formatted, i just delete the sample and move on, because so far in every case the sample is representative of the full book. if i cant get a sample, i dont buy, period.
you COULD email amazon about the problem, but so far for the 6 or 7 that have had problems (3 of them problems serious enough as to make them unreadable) in every case i just get a canned answer along the lines of “sorry, we just publish ‘em like we get ‘em”… so i dont even bother anymore.
I do agree with you that Amazon books are not perfect, but at the same time I believe the rate is about maybe 10%. I have not bought many amazon format books, but i have converted many eBooks that I already have and most of them work fine on Kindle. Things can definitely get better with amazon books, but I am not too greedy. I love my Kindle for what is despite the flaws.
